The City is working with Eco-Buy as a new sustainable procurement specialist for the purchase of sustainable goods and services.

As well as reviewing our current procurement policies and tendering criteria, we are working towards developing a 'one-stop' online platform for the sourcing of these goods and providing a certification process to ensure that goods and services are adhering to stringent sustainability criteria, will support the City to move towards a cleaner and greener system in a financially lean and efficient manner.

The City has a policy of purchasing locally, sustainably and ethically where possible. The City buys compostable cups, recycled plates and bowls, and makes use of re-usable options where possible. Staff are encouraged to purchase their stationery options from the Staples 'Eco-Choice' range, which provides a broad range of sustainable options for office basics, in addition to purchasing 'carbon neutral' paper which has a high recycled content.

The preliminary design of the new building project for the City has incorporated sustainability objectives and the use of sustainable, renewable or recycled materials to achieve a high 'Green Star' standard. Developers must adhere to City policies which outline sustainability criteria to be considered in development applications.
